The method involves drinking a concoction made from lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup throughout the day—no solid food allowed. Proponents claim this blend can help burn fat, but Lisa DeFazio, a registered dietitian and health expert, isn’t convinced.
She explains that while you may see a quick drop on the scale, it’s largely due to water weight loss rather than fat loss. “You’re not eating, so you’re likely to lose weight quickly, but it’s not fat,” DeFazio says. In fact, it’s mostly just water weight, which will return once normal eating resumes. The combination of ingredients, including the cayenne pepper and acidic lemon juice, can also irritate your stomach and digestive system. In addition, the lack of proper nutrients can leave you feeling lightheaded, irritable, and even nauseous.
Despite these risks, celebrities like Beyoncé have openly admitted to using the Lemonade Diet to shed pounds before major events, and her flawless figure is a testament to its temporary effects. DeFazio notes, “People are desperate. They will do whatever it takes, and if they see a Beyoncé, who I think has been rumored in the past to have done this, following this, then they’re going to try it.” The promise of a quick fix is enticing, but it’s important to remember that sustainable weight loss requires a balanced, long-term approach.
While the Master Cleanse Liquid Diet might offer short-term weight loss results, it’s not a healthy or sustainable method. DeFazio strongly advises against it, as it lacks proper nutrition and can lead to unwanted side effects. Instead of chasing after quick fixes, it’s better to focus on a balanced diet and exercise routine that supports overall health. Celebrities may be able to afford the temporary effects of such diets, but for most of us, long-term wellness is the ultimate goal.
