Move over, Iron Man. Thanks to Gravity Industries, personal jet suits are no longer just the stuff of sci-fi. Led by British inventor and former Royal Marine Richard Browning, the company has developed fully functional jet-powered flight suits that turn ordinary people into airborne thrill-seekers.
What began as a personal challenge rooted in aviation, military training, and athleticism has quickly evolved into one of the most jaw-dropping tech innovations of the decade.
Browning describes his inspiration as a combination of childhood fascination with flying, family ties to aeronautics, and his own military background. “Could you reimagine how human beings fly?” he asked himself. The result? A sleek, gravity-defying suit that channels the energy of both Tony Stark and James Bond.
His journey began in March 2016, experimenting with just one engine. By November that same year, Browning was airborne—if only for six seconds—wearing a prototype with six mini jet engines. Since then, the technology has rapidly advanced, drawing global attention and earning Browning the nickname “The Real-Life Iron Man.”
Today, Gravity’s jet suits use two engines on each arm and one on the back, enabling lift, thrust, and precise control through simple body movement. “It is remarkable how a human brain can adapt so quickly,” Browning explains. The gear includes 3D-printed aluminium arms, a polymer backpack, and a heads-up display inside the helmet that monitors fuel and engine data.
But don’t expect to cruise to work in one anytime soon. At $440,000 per suit, jet suits are more about pushing technological boundaries than solving daily commutes. Plus, owners can’t even take them home—the suits stay at Gravity HQ, where certified pilots fly under supervision.
So what’s the point? Pure adrenaline and futuristic fun.
Browning’s ultimate vision is to launch an international race series, pitting pilots against each other in high-speed jet suit challenges over rivers, harbors, and cityscapes. Think Marvel meets Formula 1. “It’s going to be like bringing Marvel superheroes to life,” he says, adding that the races aim not just to entertain, but to spark innovation and inspire a new generation of dreamers.
With jet suits taking flight and superhero dreams coming true, Gravity Industries is redefining what it means to fly. It’s not about replacing planes or public transport—it’s about elevating imagination and turning science fiction into exhilarating reality.
